Tahoe Jewish Community Hiking Club – Summer 2024
TJC is a partnership of North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation and Temple Bat Yam, which are two Reform Jewish communities blessed to call Lake Tahoe home.  Throughout the year, we celebrate our Jewish identity with holiday celebrations, Shabbatot, raising committed Jewish children and more.  We also strive to take advantage of the amazing setting in which we live.  Celebrating Ma’aseh B’reishit – the Work of Creation, we enjoy numerous recreational activities as community, learning and discussing Torah in unique ways on the hiking trails, on the ski slopes, and more.
The Tahoe Jewish Community (TJC) Hiking Club is a newly formed group that will gather our community numerous times during our hiking season for hikes big and small to build community, learn together, and embrace the splendor of the Sierra in Lake Tahoe.  Some of our hikes will push us physically and spiritually, while others will focus on the opportunity to be inclusive to various abilities.  Our ‘family hikes’ will be around 3 miles in length with mild elevation gains and our ‘medium strenuous’ hikes will be around 5 miles with a bit more elevation.  The pinnacle of our season will feature a Shabbat in late July to join together to hike Mt. Tallac, the iconic peak on the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe.
Shabbat/Saturday July 27, 2024 – 9am – Tahoe Meadows Hike off of Mt. Rose Highway
Shabbat/Saturday August 17, 2024 – 8am – Mt. Tallac – the Mid-Tallac Trail.  Meet at the Lily Lake parking lot at 730am to gather and prepare for a wonderful summit hike!  Due to the strenuous reality of this adventure, we will ask all participants to sign a liability waiver.
Maybe more scheduled hikes into the early Fall, watch the newsletter and calendars for more opportunities!
