Perseids Meteor Shower Viewing
August 12, 2023 @ 9:00 pm
This weekend the Perseids Meteor shower, one of the best metero showers of the year, will be at its height after the sun goes down motzi (after) Shabbat. This is a wonderful time to get together and look in awe at the special wonders of creation. If you have never been “meteor hunting”, we can’t promise what it will be, but this year is the perfect first time opportunity as the moon does not rise early and the possibilities of great viewing are strong.
Please meet up at the corner of Little Bear and Grizzly Mountain Drive at 9:00 pm, August 12th to walk about 15 minutes to the big meadow at Washoe Meadows State Park and enjoy the shower away from city lights.
The nearest address is 1657 Grizzly Mountain Drive and there is ample safe street parking. Look for a lighted lantern at the trailhead. There is about ¼ mile of easy hill and the rest is flat. All of it is established trail or utility road. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight for the walk and something to lie on for the best viewing of shooting stars. If lucky, some will be colorful.
