Adult Learning with TBY

Reform Judaism: In the coming year, the Reform Movement of Judaism will be celebrating the 200th birthday of Isaac Mayer Wise, often considered the founder of Reform Judaism. This 3 session learning opportunity will provide a survey of Reform Judaism’s History, The Platforms of Reform Judaism and the modern expressions of our Union for Reform Judaism. We will study and examine original documents providing the theological and religious underpinnings of Reform. This class will provide a healthy forum for discussion and learning about denominational Judaism including its pros and cons.

Thursdays October 18th, October 25th & November 1st - 5:30-7pm

Temple Bat Yam offers two regular adult learning opportunities. One takes place every week at the Temple building and the other in Carson City.
  • Torah at the Lake - Thursdays 12-1pm - Bring Your Own Lunch
A lively discussion on the weekly Torah portion facilitated by Rabbi Evon Yakar and Devorah Cohen.
  • Tze U'lamed - Go and Learn - Every Other Wednesday (unless noted in the calendar) 5-6:15pm - Currently held at Comma Coffee in Carson City
This is a discussion and class that typically explores elements of the weekly Torah portion, an upcoming holiday or an area of study of interest to the participants or Rabbi Evon.

There is no fee for these classes or meetings and membership in TBY is not required, but always welcome! Donations to the General Fund of the Temple support Rabbi Evon's presence in our community and are encouraged for participation in our classes.
