5:30pm -- City of Theives, by David Benioff.  The author's grandfather was a teenager during the siege of Leningrad. Picked up by the police, he and his cell mate, a Russian soldier who dallied too long with the ladies to make it back from furlough in time, were told they could go free if they found a dozen eggs for the general's daughter's wedding cake -- in Leningrad, during the siege. It is poignent, funny, sad, and funny again.
